Odisha inaugurates Sub-Registrar offices statewide

Odisha achieves milestone with inauguration of 57 new Sub-Registrar Offices

Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: Odisha achieved a major milestone in revenue administration with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurating 57 new Sub-Registrar Offices (SROs) across 56 tehsils in 17 districts, ensuring that all 317 tehsils in the state now have functional registration offices.

With the latest expansion, Cuttack tehsil has also been provided with an additional Sub-Registrar Office to cater to higher demand. The move is expected to significantly improve public service delivery by streamlining land and property registration, enhancing transparency, and eliminating the role of intermediaries.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Chief Minister Majhi described the development as a landmark reform in the revenue sector. He said proper coordination between tehsil offices and registration offices would enable faster processing of mutation pattas, directly benefiting citizens.

To further simplify access to government services, the Chief Minister announced the integration of 11 key revenue services with the state government’s WhatsApp chatbot. Citizens can now apply for services such as mutation, change in agricultural land type, residence, caste, income, tribal, OBC and EWS certificates, as well as legal heir and guardianship certificates, through WhatsApp by contacting 9437292000, without visiting tehsil offices.

Majhi expressed gratitude to Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and the department for systematising revenue administration. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to future reforms, particularly to protect the rights of sharecroppers.

“Many sharecroppers are deprived of government benefits due to the absence of legal protection. The government is working towards introducing new laws that safeguard the interests of both landowners and sharecroppers,” the Chief Minister said.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said the opening of Sub-Registrar Offices in all tehsils would reduce public inconvenience, cut travel expenses, and ensure timely and efficient registration of land and property documents, marking a major step towards citizen-centric governance.
