Odisha Govt Launches ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana’ to Support SC/ST Families

Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: In a major step towards women’s welfare and social equity, the Odisha government on Tuesday launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana’, a new scheme aimed at easing the financial burden of daughters’ marriages for economically backward families, with special focus on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Announcing the initiative, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the scheme reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified and secure life for women. Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated that protecting the interests of the people of Odisha—especially women—remains a top priority.

Under the scheme, eligible families will receive meaningful financial assistance to ensure that the marriage of daughters does not become a source of stress for underprivileged parents. The Chief Minister emphasized that the initiative goes beyond monetary support.

“Our effort is not limited merely to financial assistance. The scheme will also play an important role in eliminating social evils like dowry and in fostering a respectful outlook towards daughters in society,” Majhi said.

He further noted that the state government is actively promoting widow remarriage and has made marriage registration mandatory to strengthen social security and legal protection for women across Odisha.

“Our goal is to remove the burden of worry from the shoulders of economically disadvantaged families and help daughters begin a new phase of life with dignity and self-respect,” the Chief Minister added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the happiness and prosperity of all citizens.

The Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana is expected to bring significant relief to marginalized communities while reinforcing the state’s broader agenda of women empowerment and social reform.
