Odisha Govt to Construct Three Bridges to Ease Traffic Congestion
Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the construction of three major bridges over rivers to improve inter-district connectivity and ease traffic congestion. The projects, sanctioned on Friday night, will enhance infrastructure in key regions of the state.
The first project involves the construction of a second bridge over the Kharasrota River at Bharigada on the Cuttack-Kharasrota route, running parallel to the existing bridge connecting Aul to Chandbali. This ₹221.53 crore project will improve traffic flow on State Highway 9A (SH-9A) and enhance access to Dangamala and Bhitarakanika National Park. The construction, awarded to M/s Ram Kumar Contractor Pvt Ltd, is set to be completed within 36 months.
The second project is a high-level bridge over the Mahanadi River at Pujaripalli Ghat, connecting Jarimuli under CRIF. The bridge will link old NH-200 (now NH-49), facilitating smoother connectivity between Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Talcher, Kamakhyanagar, Duburi, Chandikhol, and Bargarh. Awarded to M/s GKC Projects Limited at ₹239 crore, this bridge is also expected to be completed within 36 months.
The third project involves the construction of a second bridge over the Brahmani River at Patrapur, along the Cuttack-Chandabali Road. Running parallel to the existing bridge, this ₹228.99 crore project aims to reduce congestion on SH-9A, which connects Kendrapara to Bhadrak. The contract has been awarded to M/s Ram Kumar Contractor Pvt Ltd, with a completion timeline of 36 months.
These infrastructure projects are expected to significantly boost transportation efficiency, enhance regional connectivity, and support economic growth in the state.
