Bhubaneswar, 9 February 2024: The England Women’s Hockey Team touched down at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Sunday, ahead of the highly anticipated FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 India leg. The World No. 7 side is set to face host nation India and World No. 1 Netherlands in the tournament, scheduled to be held from 15th to 25th February.
England has had a challenging start to their Pro League campaign, registering one win and three losses so far. However, they remain determined to turn things around as they prepare to take on two of the world’s strongest teams in Bhubaneswar.
Sharing her excitement upon arrival, England forward Darcy Bourne expressed enthusiasm about playing in India, stating, “We are very excited to be in India, especially after the Hero Hockey India League, expecting the atmosphere to be really big. This is my first time in India, but the buzz around hockey here is nothing like I have ever seen, so I am extremely excited.”
Despite facing struggles at recent World Cups, England holds the title of Commonwealth champions, having secured gold in 2022. With several key players in their squad this year, they are considered strong contenders in the tournament.
Head Coach David Ralph also looked forward to the competition, highlighting the unique experience of playing in India. “We are expecting the matches to be very challenging, but we are excited. It is going to be wonderful for the girls to play in front of the Indian crowd. In hockey, this is one of the best things you can experience,” he said.
The FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 India leg promises thrilling encounters between top teams, with matches being broadcast live on Jio Cinema and Sports 18.
