O.P. Jindal Global University Marks World Heritage Day with Sonipat Bazaar Exhibition

O.P. Jindal Global University commemorated World Heritage Day 2026 by hosting an exhibition titled “Documentation of Historic Bazaars of Sonipat”, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the city’s traditional marketplaces.

Held from April 17 to April 19, the exhibition offered visitors an immersive look into Sonipat’s historic bazaars, presenting them not merely as commercial hubs but as vibrant centers of cultural identity, economic evolution, and collective memory.

The project combined archival research, on-ground documentation, and stakeholder engagement to capture the dynamic character of these marketplaces. Through curated displays, the exhibition showcased the architectural nuances, social interactions, and evolving economic patterns embedded within these urban spaces.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Veerappa Moily and Madan Lokur, whose presence highlighted the importance of preserving and documenting heritage sites at the grassroots level.

The initiative reflects the university’s continued commitment to promoting heritage awareness and fostering dialogue around conservation, while encouraging communities to reconnect with their local history.
