Odisha Governor Urges Youth to Protect Earth

Odisha Governor Urges Youth to Become “Guardians of the Earth”

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati today called upon the youth to act as “guardians of the Earth,” emphasizing the need to make sustainability a way of life.

Addressing the valedictory session of the Earth Again Conference 2025, organized by the Sambad Group in Bhubaneswar, the Governor said, “You are not only inheritors of the Earth but its guardians. Your choices today—in how you live, consume, and create—will shape the legacy you leave behind.” He encouraged the younger generation to lead by example in adopting sustainable lifestyles.

Appreciating the Sambad Group’s role in spreading climate awareness, Dr. Kambhampati said, “In a world grappling with environmental degradation, the media has a vital role not only to inform but also to inspire action. The Sambad Group has gone beyond reporting to become a catalyst for change, mobilizing communities, especially the youth, for a greener tomorrow.”

Highlighting the Earth Again initiative as a “call for collective transformation,” he added that it unites citizens and local representatives to craft community-driven solutions for ecological resilience through workshops, innovation programs, and Climate Panchayats.

The Governor also lauded Odisha’s leadership in sustainability, noting that the state’s unique ecology and traditional wisdom demonstrate that “progress and preservation can coexist.” He urged entrepreneurs to create enterprises that “regenerate rather than exploit” and ensure that innovation is guided by both purpose and responsibility.

On the occasion, Dr. Kambhampati presented the Parivesh Samman Awards to individuals who have made notable contributions to environmental conservation. Congratulating the awardees, he said their personal commitment demonstrates how individual efforts can drive collective change.

The event also featured a speech by Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, CMD of Eastern Media Limited, who highlighted the importance of community participation in environmental initiatives.
