The Odisha government has reached out to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for assistance in addressing structural concerns at the Jagannath Temple in Puri. Multiple cracks have been discovered in the Meghanada Pacheri, the temple’s boundary wall, prompting immediate action.

Concerns were raised by temple servitors, who reported that wastewater from Anandabazar, located within the temple complex, is seeping through the cracks, potentially compromising the integrity of the historic structure. Additionally, patches of algae have appeared on certain sections of the wall, further alarming the temple administration.

In light of these developments, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has formally requested the ASI to conduct necessary conservation work on the boundary wall. The safety and preservation of the 12th-century shrine are of paramount importance, and the SJTA is committed to ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to protect this revered site.

As one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations in India, the Jagannath Temple holds immense cultural and religious importance. The government’s proactive approach in seeking expert assistance from the ASI underscores the urgency of addressing these structural issues to preserve the temple for future generations.
