Odisha is rapidly establishing itself as a frontrunner in Eastern India’s healthcare sector, driven by focused governance, increased investments, and strategic planning, said Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday.
Speaking at the Times Health Icons–Odisha 2025 awards ceremony in Bhubaneswar, the Governor commended the dedication and resilience of doctors and healthcare professionals, calling them the “real heroes of the nation” for their tireless service, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recalling the immense contribution of medical workers during the pandemic, Dr. Kambhampati praised their bravery in working long hours under challenging conditions, including the use of PPE kits, to save lives. He also emphasized their ongoing role in promoting health awareness, conducting vaccination drives, and ensuring maternal and child healthcare services.
Highlighting the state’s progress, the Governor noted the government’s commitment to strengthening the public health infrastructure. He pointed to the rise in the state’s health budget and the establishment of new medical colleges in Jajpur, Phulbani, and Talcher as significant milestones. Additionally, he stressed the importance of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which aims to provide universal health coverage to the people of Odisha.
Dr. Kambhampati also addressed pressing challenges facing the sector, such as the increasing burden of diseases, healthcare inequities, and the growing impact of climate change on public health.
