Governor Urges Lawmakers to Support TB Patients

Odisha Governor Urges Lawmakers to Adopt TB Patients, Sponsor Nutrition Kits
In a proactive move to strengthen the fight against tuberculosis (TB), Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati announced plans to write to all Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the state, urging them to adopt TB patients and sponsor nutritional support kits.
The Governor made the announcement while chairing a high-level review meeting on the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. He emphasized that eradicating TB requires a collective societal response, not just government-led action.
“To motivate and raise awareness, Raj Bhavan will begin by distributing POSHAN kits to 100 TB patients,” Dr. Kambhampati said, adding that this initiative aims to set an example and encourage broader community involvement.
In addition to elected representatives, Dr. Kambhampati stated that similar appeals will be sent to university vice-chancellors, faculty members, philanthropists, and social organisations, urging them to actively participate by adopting TB patients and supporting awareness drives in their spheres of influence.
The Governor stressed the critical role of nutrition in TB treatment and recovery, and reiterated the need for active public engagement to achieve the national target of a TB-free India.
Odisha Health Secretary Aswathy S. presented a detailed report on the state’s progress under the campaign, covering advances in TB detection, patient care, treatment outreach, and public engagement.
The Governor’s call for mass participation marks a significant push towards community-driven healthcare, with a focus on compassion, awareness, and shared responsibility in the battle against tuberculosis.
