Odisha CM Promises Drinking Water for Every Village by 2026
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to provide drinking water to every village in the state by 2026. Majhi made this announcement while addressing the state-level celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day in Puri.
In his speech, Majhi acknowledged that many rural areas across the state still lack access to essential services, including drinking water, electricity, pucca houses, and paved roads leading to villages. He emphasized that addressing these gaps is crucial for the state’s overall development and improving the quality of life for its rural population.
“After taking oath on June 12, 2024, our government launched the ‘Viksit Gaon, Viksit Odisha’ program, which focuses on the comprehensive development of villages. The aim is to ensure that each village is provided with the necessary infrastructure, including drinking water, electricity, and better roads,” Majhi said.
The Chief Minister stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure equitable development, with a particular focus on improving living conditions in the rural areas. As part of this initiative, the state aims to achieve complete drinking water supply to every village by 2026, ensuring no rural community is left behind.
Majhi’s announcement comes as part of his ongoing efforts to fulfill the vision of a “developed Odisha”, with better access to essential services for its rural population. The ‘Viksit Gaon, Viksit Odisha’ program is expected to transform the state’s rural landscape, empowering villagers and enhancing their quality of life.
This initiative reflects the state’s dedication to inclusive development, aiming for comprehensive progress in all sectors, particularly in rural infrastructure, which is critical for the state’s long-term growth.
