Odisha CM Hails Zero Tax Up to ₹12 Lakh Income as Visionary Move

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday lauded the Union Budget 2025-26 proposal to exempt individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh annually from income tax, calling it a “visionary step” that will empower citizens and boost economic growth.
Majhi stated that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on the middle class while enhancing disposable income, which in turn will drive consumption and investment.
“This progressive initiative will benefit millions, providing greater financial security and encouraging entrepreneurship. A robust middle class will lead to a stronger economy,” he said.
The proposal, if implemented, would mark a significant shift in India’s tax structure, offering relief to salaried individuals and small business owners. Experts believe it could stimulate demand across various sectors and contribute to overall economic expansion.
The Union Budget 2025-26, presented by the central government, has introduced several tax reforms aimed at simplifying the taxation process and fostering economic growth. The zero-tax provision up to ₹12 lakh income is among the most talked-about measures, drawing widespread appreciation from different quarters.
Majhi expressed confidence that this bold move would help Odisha and the entire country progress towards a more inclusive and prosperous future.
