Odisha Assembly Adjourned Amid Opposition Uproar Over Farmers’ Issues

The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Saturday as opposition parties—Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress—demanded a special discussion on farmers’ issues, leading to an adjournment till noon.
As soon as the proceedings began, opposition members stormed into the well of the House, raising slogans against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state. Speaker Surama Padhy had not even taken her seat when the protests began, forcing her to adjourn the session.
Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati was seen standing on a chair near the Speaker’s podium, shouting slogans as part of the demonstration. The opposition legislators accused the BJP government of neglecting the plight of farmers, who have been struggling with various agrarian issues, including procurement problems and financial distress.
The demand for a special discussion on the farmers’ concerns came amidst rising unrest in the agricultural sector. The opposition claimed that the state government has failed to address the grievances of the farming community, particularly regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP), irrigation facilities, and loan waivers.
With the Assembly adjourned till noon, political observers anticipate further heated exchanges when the session resumes. The ongoing protests signal an intensified opposition strategy to pressurize the government on crucial agrarian issues affecting thousands of farmers in Odisha.
Further developments are awaited as the House reconvenes later in the day.
