The 25th edition of the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) will pay tribute to legendary Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal, celebrating his monumental contribution to Indian cinema. The silver jubilee festival, which will run from June 20–22, will showcase a rich repertoire of diverse cinematic works, featuring celebrated artists such as Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, James Ivory, and Rasika Dugal.

As the longest-running and one of the most esteemed US festivals dedicated to Indian independent cinema, NYIFF continues to offer a global platform for showcasing bold new voices, storied auteurs, and pressing narratives from the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora.

In a press statement released on Monday, Festival Director Aseem Chhabra remarked, “What began as a grassroots platform is now a global stage for Indian independent cinema.”

The festival’s 25th edition is set to bring an exciting mix of films, reflecting the cultural diversity and richness of India’s cinematic traditions, while also highlighting the contemporary themes that resonate across the globe. Benegal’s legacy will be celebrated through a special tribute, recognizing his pioneering role in shaping Indian film history.
