National Flag Unfurled on Odisha’s Islands

National Flag Unfurled on 10 Uninhabited Islands in Odisha for First Time
Bhubaneswar, Jan 26: In a historic first, the National Flag was unfurled on ten uninhabited islands of Coastal Odisha on Republic Day, Sunday. The islands, located in Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jagatsinghpur districts, were Subarna Syamsoolam, Naya Tapu Syamsoolam, Udabali, Kanika, Long Wheeler, Short Island, Small Wheeler, Boitarkud, Jatadhari Tanda, and Barkud.
This unprecedented event was carried out by the Maritime Police Station of Odisha, which conducted surveys and facilitated the flag-hoisting on these isolated islands.
The initiative, directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the All India Security Director General Conference in November 2024, aimed to demonstrate India’s pride and sovereignty over its uninhabited islands. The Prime Minister’s directive called for the National Flag to be unfurled on these islands by Republic Day.
Following this instruction, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi quickly took action and instructed the state’s Director General of Police, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.
The unfurling of the National Flag symbolizes India’s undivided sovereignty over its entire territory, including the remotest and uninhabited islands of the coastal region.
