Minakshi, Pooja Rani Assure India Two Medals at World Boxing Cup
Indian boxers Minakshi (48kg) and Pooja Rani (80kg) ensured the country at least two medals at the ongoing World Boxing Cup by advancing to the semifinals in their respective weight categories on Day 3 of the tournament.
Minakshi delivered a commanding performance in her quarterfinal bout against Guo Yi-Xuan of Chinese Taipei. Displaying swift footwork, sharp movement, and accurate punches, she secured a unanimous 5:0 victory to move into the semifinals and confirm a medal finish for India.
Later in the day, seasoned boxer Pooja Rani added to India’s success with a hard-fought win in the 80kg category. Facing a strong challenge from local favorite Gulsaya Yerzhan of Kazakhstan, Pooja held her nerve and emerged victorious with a 4:1 split decision. Her determined display earned her a place in the final four and another assured podium spot for the Indian contingent.
With these wins, both pugilists have brought momentum to India’s campaign at the prestigious global event, and fans will be hoping for more medal finishes in the days to come.
