Raj Chakraborty Quits Politics After Defeat

Raj Chakraborty Announces Exit From Active Politics After Electoral Defeat
KOLKATA, May 7: Filmmaker-turned-politician Raj Chakraborty on Thursday announced his decision to quit active politics following his defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
Chakraborty, who contested from the Barrackpore constituency as a candidate of All India Trinamool Congress, lost to Kaustav Bagchi of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 15,822 votes.
The filmmaker had won the Barrackpore seat in the 2021 Assembly elections and served as MLA during his tenure. However, the latest poll setback appears to have prompted his decision to step away from political life.
In a statement shared on social media, Chakraborty said that his political journey has come to an end. While expressing gratitude to supporters and well-wishers, he indicated that he now intends to focus on his filmmaking career and personal commitments.
Raj Chakraborty is a prominent name in the Bengali film industry and has directed several commercially successful films over the years. His entry into politics had drawn significant attention in West Bengal, with the Trinamool Congress fielding him as a high-profile candidate in 2021.
His announcement has sparked reactions across political and entertainment circles, with many supporters acknowledging his contributions both in cinema and public life.
