L&T Secures Major Contract for Solar Plant in Bihar

Infrastructure giant Larsen and Toubro (L&T) announced on Monday that it has won a significant contract to construct a grid-connected solar plant with an integrated battery energy storage system in Bihar. This development marks a substantial step forward in the state’s renewable energy initiatives.

According to L&T’s classification, the contract’s value is estimated to be between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore. The exact figure, however, remains undisclosed. This contract falls under the power transmission and distribution (T&D) vertical of L&T, which continues to expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector.

In a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), L&T detailed that this project involves setting up a large-scale solar power plant coupled with advanced battery energy storage. The storage system will enhance the stability and reliability of the solar power supply, ensuring a consistent and efficient energy output even when solar generation is low.

This project aligns with India’s growing emphasis on renewable energy and sustainable power solutions. Bihar, in particular, stands to benefit from this development, as it will contribute to the state’s energy security and support its ambitions to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

L&T has been a significant player in India’s infrastructure and energy sectors, with a robust portfolio of projects spanning various segments, including power, transportation, and heavy engineering. This new contract underscores the company’s commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy landscape and highlights its expertise in executing large-scale, technologically complex projects.

The successful implementation of this project will not only boost L&T’s credentials in the renewable energy sector but also pave the way for further investments in similar projects across the country. As India continues to push for greener and more sustainable energy solutions, L&T’s role will be crucial in driving this transformation.

This announcement comes at a time when the Indian government is actively promoting renewable energy initiatives and setting ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s overall energy mix. The collaboration between L&T and the state of Bihar is a testament to the shared vision of achieving a sustainable and energy-secure future.
