Kajol says DDLJ’s magic can’t recreated

‘DDLJ’ at 30: Kajol Says the Film’s Magic Can’t Be Recreated
As Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) marks its 30th anniversary this month, actress Kajol believes that while a remake may adapt to contemporary sensibilities, the timeless charm of the 1995 classic can never be recreated.
“Remaking Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge? You’ll have to adapt it to current times and thought processes, so no, the magic cannot be recreated,” Kajol said in an interview with PTI ahead of the film’s 30th anniversary. “Create your own magic,” she added.
Released on October 20, 1995, DDLJ became a defining film in Indian cinema, cementing Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan as one of Bollywood’s most iconic on-screen pairs. Kajol, who was just 21 when she portrayed Simran, the traditional yet spirited NRI torn between love and family duty, said the film continues to hold a special place in her heart.
Nearly three decades later, the movie’s legacy endures—it still runs at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre, a testament to its enduring appeal and the generation-defining love story it told.
