Union Minister Jual Oram Inaugurates Mega Medical Camp in Sundargarh, Odisha

Sundargarh, April 6: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Jual Oram on Saturday inaugurated a two-day Mega Medical Camp at the Sundargarh Government Medical College & Hospital in Odisha. Organised jointly by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, AIIMS Delhi, and the Government of Odisha, the camp is being held as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations.

Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to holistic tribal development, Shri Oram stated that the Central Government is working relentlessly to strengthen healthcare access in tribal-dominated areas. He commended the dedicated efforts of AIIMS Delhi’s team of medical experts in delivering quality healthcare to underserved populations.

As a gesture of inclusivity, the Minister distributed wheelchairs to around 100 persons with disabilities and personally interacted with patients to motivate them to avail themselves of the specialised services.

The camp, featuring medical expertise from 19 specialist departments of AIIMS Delhi—including cardiology, nephrology, haematology, orthopaedics, and surgery—has drawn patients from 18 blocks of Sundargarh and nearby regions. Free diagnostic services such as ECG, X-ray, ultrasound, and blood tests are being offered, along with prescribed medications at no cost.

On the first day alone, over 1,500 patients benefitted from the services, indicating overwhelming community participation. The camp will continue today, April 6, ensuring broader outreach.

The initiative aligns with the goals of the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2023, aiming to eradicate the disease by 2047 through universal screening, awareness, and care, particularly in tribal regions.

This mega camp is a testament to the Government’s vision of “Healthcare for All” and a significant step towards building healthier and empowered tribal communities across India.
