Waqf Amendment Bill Gets Presidential Nod, Becomes Law
New Delhi, April 5: The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has officially become law following the approval of President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday. The Legislative Department of the Ministry of Law and Justice subsequently issued a gazette notification, marking the bill’s enactment.
The bill, which had sparked intense debates in both Houses of Parliament, was passed after prolonged sessions. The Lok Sabha cleared the bill after a 13-hour discussion, with 288 members voting in favour and 232 against. It was then passed in the Rajya Sabha following a marathon 17-hour session that concluded in the early hours of Friday, securing 128 votes in favour and 95 in opposition.
With the President’s assent, the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 now stands as a law of the land. The legislation is expected to bring significant changes to the administration and governance of waqf properties across the country.
