INS Sudarshini Concludes Cape Verde Visit

INS Sudarshini Concludes Port Call at Cape Verde

INS Sudarshini successfully concluded its four-day port call at Mindelo on May 8 as part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing expedition, Lokayan 26. The visit featured professional exchanges, cultural interactions, and social engagements aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation between India and Cape Verde.

During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini met Capitão-de-Navio Kahbi Yassine Fonseca Pereira Batista, Commander of the Cabo Verde Coast Guard, to discuss maritime security and opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

A major highlight of the port call was the training engagement conducted by the Indian Navy, including Damage Control and Seamanship drills onboard the Cabo Verdean patrol vessel Guardiao. A delegation from the Cabo Verde Army also visited INS Sudarshini and received an overview of the ship’s sail training capabilities.

The visit also showcased cultural and diplomatic ties between the two countries. A joint Yoga session was organised with participation from personnel of the Cabo Verde Coast Guard and officials from the Indian Embassy. An onboard reception hosted by the ship brought together senior military officers, government dignitaries, and members of the diplomatic community.

The Indian Navy said the port call marked an important milestone under its “Bridges of Friendship” initiative, reaffirming India’s commitment to maritime outreach and stronger partnerships with friendly nations.

Following the successful engagement at Mindelo, INS Sudarshini has now embarked on the next phase of its deployment towards Antigua, undertaking a crucial trans-Atlantic passage that will be the longest leg of the voyage.
