India’s R Vaishali Wins Bronze at Women’s World Blitz Championship

Indian chess player R Vaishali secured a bronze medal in the women’s section of the World Blitz Championship, delivering a strong performance that added to India’s success at the event. Vaishali’s impressive showing followed the victory of India’s stalwart Koneru Humpy, who won the title in the rapid event earlier.

In the World Blitz Championship, Vaishali defeated China’s Zhu Jiner 2.5-1.5 in the quarter-finals, showcasing her skill and determination. However, she was bested by another Chinese chess player, Ju Wenjun, in the semi-finals, losing 0.5-2.5.

The tournament was largely dominated by Chinese players, with Ju Wenjun eventually claiming the world title after defeating her compatriot Lei Tingjie 3.5-2.5 in the final.

Vaishali’s bronze is a significant achievement for Indian chess, and her performance highlights the growing presence of Indian players on the global chess stage. The country’s success in both the rapid and blitz formats demonstrates its growing strength in competitive chess.
