India to Launch Deep Sea Oil Mission

India to Launch National Deep Water Exploration Mission: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India will soon launch the National Deep Water Exploration Mission to tap oil and gas reserves beneath the sea, marking a significant step towards energy independence.

Delivering his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said the mission would be undertaken in a “Samudra Manthan” spirit, symbolising a determined search for resources crucial to the nation’s growth.

“We want to work in mission mode to explore the reserves of oil and gas beneath the sea. This is an important announcement towards becoming energy independent,” Modi said.

He emphasised that the initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of achieving self-reliance in the energy sector, reducing dependency on imports, and bolstering the nation’s economic resilience.
