India Successfully Test-Fires ‘Agni-5’ Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile
India on Wednesday successfully test-fired its Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) Agni-5 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha. The missile launch was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
According to the Ministry of Defence, the test validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile system, reaffirming India’s strategic deterrence capabilities.
The Agni-5, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is a three-stage, solid-fuelled missile with advanced navigation and guidance systems. It is capable of carrying nuclear warheads and has a strike range of over 5,000 km, making it the longest-range missile in the Agni series.
Defence officials said the successful test demonstrates India’s growing self-reliance in missile technology and strengthens its credible minimum deterrence posture.
The launch was witnessed by senior officials of DRDO, the Strategic Forces Command, and the Ministry of Defence.
