Goa leverages FIDE Cup for tourism

FIDE World Cup 2025 boosts Goa’s push for sports-driven tourism: Officials
Goa is aiming to strengthen its position as a hub for sports tourism, riding on the momentum of hosting major international sporting events, officials said on Monday.
The upcoming FIDE World Cup 2025 is expected to provide a significant boost to the state’s efforts to attract tourists through sports-centric initiatives. Goa, already popular for its beaches, culture, and nightlife, is now eyeing sports tourism as a strategic avenue to diversify its tourism offerings.
Officials noted that hosting global events not only showcases Goa’s infrastructure and organizational capabilities but also generates economic opportunities, enhances local engagement, and promotes the state on an international platform.
“With the FIDE World Cup 2025, we aim to attract chess enthusiasts and sports tourists from across the globe, positioning Goa as a preferred destination for sports-driven tourism,” said a senior state tourism official.
The state government is reportedly planning several initiatives to leverage this opportunity, including themed tours, local engagement programs, and infrastructure upgrades to cater to international visitors.
