Global Bio-India 2024 Showcases India’s Biotech Strengths
The fourth edition of Global Bio-India 2024 concluded successfully, highlighting India’s growing prowess in biotechnology. Held from September 12-14 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, the event was organized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the conference, which saw participation from national and international biotech stakeholders. The event focused on ‘Biotech Innovation’ and ‘Bio-manufacturing,’ emphasizing their impact on the bioeconomy.
Key highlights included the launch of 11 products by Indian biotech startups, demonstrating the country’s emerging talent in biosciences. The event also featured the exchange of Letters of Intent between BIRAC, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and IPE Global for future co-funding partnerships.
Awards were presented in several categories, including the BIRAC Innovators Awards and Best Startup Exhibitor Awards. The event marked the launch of new calls for proposals under the i4 (Innovation for Industry) and PACE (Promoting Academic Collaboration and Entrepreneurship) programs.
Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani and former Director of IIT-Delhi, served as the Guest of Honor. He emphasized the need for India to develop organizational models akin to BIRAC for emerging technologies and foster deep tech startups.
Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary of DBT, and other key officials expressed gratitude to all participants and highlighted the event’s role in demonstrating India’s biotech potential.
Global Bio-India 2024 showcased India’s strides in biotechnology and set a roadmap for future innovations and manufacturing advancements in the sector.
