Gill doubtful, set for fitness test

Gill to Undergo Fitness Test on Friday, Doubtful for 2nd Test Against South Africa
India captain Shubman Gill is set to undergo a crucial fitness test on Friday after missing training sessions due to a neck spasm suffered during the opening Test against South Africa. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that the team management is giving Gill every possible chance to prove his fitness ahead of the series-deciding second Test.
Gill picked up the injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test, which India lost by 30 runs. Since then, the skipper has stayed away from the nets as stiffness and discomfort persist, raising concerns over his availability for the must-win match.
While Gill’s chances of taking the field remain slim, the BCCI’s sports science team is monitoring his condition closely and is expected to make a final decision after the fitness test on Friday.
India trail 0–1 in the two-match series, with the second Test beginning on Saturday.
