Kotak slams agenda-driven criticism of Gambhir

Kotak Defends Gambhir, Calls Criticism an ‘Agenda’

India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has strongly defended head coach Gautam Gambhir, expressing frustration over what he termed as unfair and agenda-driven criticism following the 30-run defeat to South Africa in the opening Test in Kolkata.

The loss marked India’s fourth home Test defeat in the past year under Gambhir’s tenure, prompting sharp reactions from sections of fans and pundits. Kotak, however, insisted that the blame being placed solely on Gambhir was neither justified nor constructive.

“‘Gautam Gambhir, Gautam Gambhir’ — this constant criticism is being done. I’m saying this because I’m part of the staff, and I feel bad. That’s not the way,” Kotak said on Thursday, two days before the second Test begins in Guwahati.

Kotak suggested that some of the commentary against Gambhir may be influenced by individuals with vested interests, adding that the team remains fully united behind its head coach.

India trail the two-match series 0–1, with the must-win second Test starting Saturday.
