Former BJD MP Sujeet Kumar Elected to Rajya Sabha as BJP Candidate Unopposed
Bhubaneswar: Sujeet Kumar, a former MP from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as a BJP candidate from Odisha. The announcement was made on Friday by election officials.
Kumar had previously resigned from the BJD and relinquished his Rajya Sabha membership in September to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), prompting the by-election for the vacant seat. The BJP subsequently nominated him as its candidate, and with no other contenders in the fray, Kumar was declared elected unopposed.
After receiving his certificate of election at the Odisha Assembly, Kumar expressed his gratitude and pledged to work diligently for the people of Kalahandi district and Odisha. “I have prior experience in the Rajya Sabha and will utilize it to serve the state and its people with full dedication,” he said.
Kumar’s move to the BJP is seen as a significant political development in Odisha, with analysts predicting potential shifts in the state’s political dynamics ahead of the upcoming elections.
