ED Officer Granted Interim Bail, Released

ED Officer Arrested for Bribery Granted Interim Bail to Visit Newborn

Chintan Raghuvanshi, Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who was recently arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman in Bhubaneswar, was released on interim bail from Jharpada jail on Friday evening.

The Orissa High Court had granted him interim bail on humanitarian grounds, citing the birth of his child. The young Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer became a father on June 28 and had requested permission to attend family rituals and see his newborn.

“The IRS officer was released from jail this evening after the relevant documents from the high court and the lower court were produced to the jail authorities,” said Lalitendu Mishra, Raghuvanshi’s lawyer.

The interim bail is valid for 10 days, during which Raghuvanshi is expected to remain in Odisha and comply with any conditions set by the court.

Raghuvanshi’s arrest by the CBI had sparked headlines, as he was caught allegedly red-handed while accepting a bribe from a businessman. The ED and CBI have yet to comment officially on the case details, which remain under investigation.

The case continues to raise questions around accountability and transparency within top investigative agencies, as observers await further developments following the completion of Raghuvanshi’s interim bail period.
