Odisha Deputy CM K V Singh Deo Directs Upgradation of OPGC’s Security Infrastructure

Bhubaneswar, July 3 : In a significant move to bolster energy security and data resilience, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, has directed officials to upgrade and strengthen the operational and data security infrastructure of the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC).

Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan on Thursday, Singh Deo emphasized the importance of modernizing internal security systems to ensure seamless power generation and delivery, especially as OPGC caters to over 30 percent of Odisha’s total power demand.

Focus on Advanced Technologies

As part of the proposed modernization, officials discussed the integration of cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and other advanced technologies to safeguard OPGC’s data and operational assets. The move is aimed at reinforcing OPGC’s capacity to manage large thermal power stations while mitigating security vulnerabilities.

To ensure robust technical implementation, the state government has sought expertise from specialized security service providers, officials said.

RailTel Presents Security Upgrade Proposal

A detailed presentation by RailTel, a central public sector undertaking specializing in ICT solutions, was made during the meeting. The proposal covered strategies to enhance data security, surveillance systems, and critical infrastructure protection mechanisms across OPGC’s facilities.

Key Officials Present

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, OPGC Managing Director Kedar Ranjan Panda, Financial Advisor and Additional Secretary Devidutta Tripathi, and senior officials from RailTel.

Deputy CM Singh Deo’s directive marks a proactive step toward modernizing Odisha’s energy infrastructure, ensuring that OPGC continues to operate securely and efficiently in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

The initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of making Odisha a technologically advanced and energy-resilient state, capable of meeting future challenges in the power sector.
