Delhi Blast: Pulwama Doctor Was Driving Car; Amit Shah to Chair High-Level Review Meet, FIR Registered Under UAPA

A day after a powerful blast near the Red Fort rocked the national capital, killing nine people and injuring 20 others, Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Investigators have launched an extensive probe across multiple locations following indications that the explosion may be linked to the terror module recently unearthed in Faridabad.

According to police sources, the vehicle in which the explosives were planted was being driven by a doctor from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. His identity is being verified, and officials are probing his alleged connections with the network operating in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a high-level security review meeting at 11 am on Tuesday to assess the situation and coordinate response measures. The meeting will be attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, and NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date.

The blast occurred near the Red Fort around 6:45 pm on Monday, shattering nearby windows and triggering panic in the crowded area. Forensic experts from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell have collected samples from the site for analysis.

Preliminary findings suggest that high-grade explosives were used in the attack, and investigators are examining CCTV footage to trace the movement of the vehicle before the explosion.

Security has been heightened across the capital, particularly around government installations, transport hubs, and markets.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the helpline numbers issued by the Delhi Police.
