DCPC Hosts Summit on Recycling, Plastic Waste Management and Circular Economy in Dehradun
The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), in collaboration with FICCI and the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), on Friday organized a Summit on Recycling, Plastic Waste Management and Circular Economy in the petrochemicals and plastics sector in Dehradun.

The Summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, experts and academia to chart a sustainable and circular roadmap for India’s petrochemical ecosystem, aligning with national goals of environmental protection and responsible industrial growth.

Delivering the keynote address, DCPC Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma highlighted key government initiatives including the CCUS framework, the National Mission for Green India, the BioE3 Policy, strengthened EPR norms, Plastic Waste Management Rules, and NITI Aayog’s Waste to Wealth programme.
She said institutions like CIPET and the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) are crucial for advancing cleaner technologies and enabling strong industry–academia collaboration.

Verma stressed faster adoption of circular manufacturing, innovation-led recycling technologies and global best practices to ensure a greener, competitive future for India’s petrochemicals sector.

Speaking at the event, Prabh Das, Chair of FICCI’s Petrochemicals & Plastics Committee, underlined the need to strengthen waste collection and recycling systems. Arvind Mehta, Chairman of AIPMA, emphasized boosting public awareness for responsible plastic use and pointed to the rising potential of India’s plastic exports.

BCG Partner Nitesh Sharma noted India’s growing alignment with global circularity standards driven by improved EPR implementation. Deepak Mishra, Joint Secretary (Petrochemicals), DCPC, shared insights on accelerating circular pathways and enhancing resource recovery through innovation and partnerships.

The inaugural session was also attended by Dr. Geeta Khanna, Chairperson of FICCI Ladies Organization, Uttarakhand, along with senior industry officials.

The Summit concluded with a reaffirmation of collective responsibility toward a greener, sustainable, and circular future for the petrochemicals and plastics sector.
