Congress Demands PM Clarify Trump Mediation

Congress Seeks PM Modi’s Clarification on Russian Aide’s Claim of Trump Mediating India-Pak Conflict
The Congress on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue a clarification following a startling claim by a top Russian official that a recent conflict between India and Pakistan was halted due to the “personal participation” of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The statement was made by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov during a briefing in Moscow, where he recounted the details of a phone conversation held on Wednesday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. According to Ushakov, the leaders discussed several international matters, including Ukraine, the Middle East, and a recent episode of tension between India and Pakistan.
“They also touched upon the Middle East and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which was stopped with the personal participation of President Trump,” Ushakov was quoted as saying by Russia’s state-owned TASS news agency.
Reacting strongly to the remarks, the Congress party demanded that Prime Minister Modi come clean on the matter, questioning why the Indian public had not been informed about such a significant diplomatic intervention, if true.
“This is a very serious claim,” the Congress said in a statement. “The Prime Minister must clarify whether a recent conflict with Pakistan did indeed take place and whether a foreign leader played a role in defusing the situation. The Indian people deserve transparency.”
The Ministry of External Affairs has yet to issue a statement addressing the claims. However, the remark has sparked political debate, raising concerns over foreign involvement in regional security issues and the government’s silence on such sensitive developments.
Observers have also questioned the timing and intent of the Kremlin’s disclosure, especially since there has been no official acknowledgement of any major India-Pakistan flare-up in recent weeks.
As calls grow for a formal response, the Prime Minister’s Office and MEA are expected to face mounting pressure to provide clarity on the issue.
