In a significant boost to sports infrastructure in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the Lovlina Boxing Academy in North Guwahati, named after Olympic bronze medallist and boxing star Lovlina Borgohain.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sarma praised Borgohain as a “youth icon” and expressed hope that her journey will inspire a new generation of boxers from Assam and the Northeast. “Assam’s emerging pugilists have a new destination to pursue their dreams – the Lovlina Boxing Academy. Equipped with modern training facilities, it will prepare our youngsters for the next level,” he said.
The academy, supported by the state government, is designed to nurture emerging talent and provide them with world-class training and infrastructure. Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extend all possible help to ensure the academy thrives as a hub for excellence in boxing.
Lovlina Borgohain, who made history by winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is widely regarded as a symbol of perseverance and sporting excellence in the region. Her name now lends prestige and motivation to the state-of-the-art facility that aims to shape the future champions of Indian boxing.
The inauguration was attended by prominent sports personalities, coaches, and young athletes eager to train under the guidance and inspiration of one of India’s finest boxers.
