Commanding Voice Limits My Roles: Sharad

Sharad Kelkar Says Commanding Voice Limits Simple Roles
Actor Sharad Kelkar has said that while his powerful and commanding voice is widely regarded as his biggest strength, it has also become a disadvantage when it comes to being offered roles of a common man.
The 49-year-old actor, who has lent his voice to several blockbuster films including Prabhas’ roles in the “Baahubali” franchise, “Adipurush” and “Salaar”, as well as Nani’s Telugu film “Dasara”, said filmmakers often hesitate to cast him in simple, everyday characters.
“People think that my voice is my biggest asset. I don’t think so. It’s a disadvantage for you because there are a few characters people can’t offer,” Kelkar told PTI. He added that when it comes to portraying an ordinary man, filmmakers are unsure how his distinctive voice would fit the character.
Kelkar’s voice has earned him recognition across industries, particularly in South Indian cinema, where he has become a popular choice for dubbing leading stars. However, he believes this strong association sometimes restricts the range of roles he is considered for on screen.
