Centre okays CBI probe into Odisha scam

Centre Approves CBI Probe into Odisha Sub-Inspector Recruitment Scam

The Centre has given its approval for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the multi-crore sub-inspector recruitment scam in Odisha, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The decision follows a formal recommendation from the Odisha government, which sought a CBI inquiry after large-scale irregularities were unearthed in the recruitment process conducted by the Odisha Police.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the state’s Crime Branch had already arrested 125 people in connection with the scam. Preliminary investigations suggested that the corruption network might have links extending beyond Odisha.

“It is suspected that the roots of corruption are spread to Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states. There is also suspicion of the involvement of inter-state organised criminal gangs in this,” the CMO said in a statement.

Officials said the CBI is likely to take over the case files soon and conduct a comprehensive probe to identify those responsible for manipulation in the recruitment process.

The scam, which rocked the state earlier this year, allegedly involved tampering with examination systems and leak of question papers, prompting widespread outrage and demands for a central investigation.

The CBI probe is expected to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice for deserving candidates who were affected by the scam.
