Anurag Kashyap-Backed Film to Close DIFF

‘Songs of Forgotten Trees’ to Close Dharamshala International Film Festival
Indie drama “Songs of Forgotten Trees”, directed by debutant filmmaker Anuparna Roy and backed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, will be the closing film at the upcoming Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF).
Produced by Bibhanshu Rai, Romil Modi, and Ranjan Singh, the film features Naaz Shaikh and Sumi Baghel in lead roles. The festival is scheduled to run from October 30 to November 2, according to a press release.
“Songs of Forgotten Trees” tells the story of Thooya, a migrant and aspiring actress navigating city life through a blend of resilience, charm, and vulnerability — sometimes trading intimacy for opportunity, as she chases her dream amid a harsh urban landscape.
The selection of the film as DIFF’s closing presentation underscores the festival’s commitment to showcasing bold, new voices in Indian independent cinema.
Anurag Kashyap’s involvement as a backer has further heightened anticipation for the film’s premiere, marking it as one of the festival’s key highlights this year.
