Rashid Latif Calls for Suspension of India-Pakistan Cricket Matches

Rashid Latif Calls for Suspension of Cricket Between India and Pakistan
NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan wicket-keeper batter, Rashid Latif, has suggested that Pakistan should stop playing cricket with India. Speaking on the ongoing tensions between the two countries, Latif expressed that if he had the authority, he would prevent Pakistan from playing against India in any cricket tournament.
Latif’s remarks come amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that it will not send its team to Pakistan for the event, citing security concerns. There is now speculation that the entire tournament may be relocated to a neutral venue due to the stand-off.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to obtain a written confirmation from the BCCI regarding India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The move by the PCB is aimed at seeking clarity on the situation before finalizing the tournament’s logistics.
Latif also went on to suggest that the International Cricket Council should refrain from granting hosting rights for global cricket events to India or Pakistan until the two nations resolve their political issues. His comments reflect the growing tensions that have affected not only bilateral relations but also the sport itself, with both countries’ cricketing engagements often mired in controversy due to the broader geopolitical climate.
