Over 10 Lakh Senior Citizens Enroll for Ayushman Vay Vandana Card Within Three Weeks of Launch
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, launched under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), has reached a major milestone, with more than 10 lakh senior citizens aged 70 and above enrolling for the card within just three weeks of its rollout on October 29, 2024.
Of the total enrolments, approximately 4 lakh are by women, underscoring the card’s impact on promoting healthcare access for senior women across the country. The initiative is aimed at providing free healthcare benefits to elderly citizens, ensuring they receive treatment for a wide range of conditions.
Since its launch, treatments worth over Rs 9 crore have been authorized, benefitting over 4,800 senior citizens, including 1,400 women. These treatments encompass a variety of medical procedures such as coronary angioplasty, hip fractures, cataract surgeries, gallbladder removal, and stroke treatment, among others.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare to India’s elderly population and ensuring their well-being as part of the larger vision of universal healthcare access.
