Odisha Government Extends Judicial Panel’s Tenure in Custodial Assault Probe
Justice Dash-Led Panel to Continue Investigating Alleged Custodial Torture with Extended Deadline
BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has extended the tenure of the judicial commission investigating the alleged torture of an army officer and the sexual assault of his fiancée in police custody. The commission, led by Justice (Retd) Chitta Ranjan Dash, was initially given 60 days to complete its inquiry, with the deadline set for November 22, 2024.
The new extension, announced by the Home Department on Saturday, gives the panel an additional 60 days, pushing the completion date to January 31, 2025. The extension aims to provide the commission with ample time to thoroughly examine the case and deliver its findings.
The case has attracted significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations against police personnel. The extension reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and comprehensive investigation into the matter.
