PM Modi to Review Progress of Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project in Surat on November 15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on November 15 to review the progress of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), India’s first Bullet Train project. At around 10 am, the Prime Minister will inspect the under-construction Surat Bullet Train Station, one of the key hubs along the corridor.

The 508-km MAHSR project—widely regarded as one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives—connects major cities including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. Of the total route, 352 km lies in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, while 156 km falls in Maharashtra.

Engineered using advanced technologies and global construction standards, the corridor features 465 km of viaducts, ensuring minimal land disturbance, enhanced safety and faster construction. So far, 326 km of viaduct work and 17 of 25 river bridges have been completed.

Once operational, the Bullet Train is expected to cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately two hours, transforming inter-city mobility and boosting business, tourism, and regional economic development across western India.

The Surat–Bilimora stretch—covering around 47 km—is now in an advanced stage of development, with both civil works and track-bed laying fully completed. The design of the Surat station draws inspiration from the city’s globally recognised diamond industry, combining aesthetic elegance with high functionality.

The station will offer modern passenger amenities, including spacious lounges, restrooms, retail zones, and seamless multi-modal connectivity to the Surat Metro, city bus services, and Indian Railways.

The visit marks an important milestone in the government’s push to accelerate high-speed rail infrastructure and introduce next-generation transportation systems across the country.
