Centre to fund 92 Odisha overbridges

Centre to Fully Fund Construction of 92 Railway Overbridges in Odisha: CM Majhi
In a significant boost to Odisha’s transport infrastructure, the Central government has agreed to bear the entire expenditure for the construction of 92 railway overbridges (ROBs) across the state, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the decision marks a shift from the earlier arrangement under which the cost was to be shared between the State Government and the Centre. Following a request from CM Majhi, the Ministry of Railways decided that the Railways would fully fund and execute the project as a single entity.
Expressing his gratitude, the Chief Minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for their continued support towards strengthening railway infrastructure in Odisha. The approval for conversion of 92 Road Over Bridge works to 100 per cent Railway funding reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to enhancing safety and accelerating connectivity across the state.”
Officials said the move will not only expedite construction but also enhance safety at railway crossings, ease traffic congestion, and improve connectivity between key urban and rural regions.
The overbridges are expected to play a pivotal role in reducing accidents, ensuring smooth vehicular movement, and contributing to the state’s economic growth by improving logistics efficiency.
The Chief Minister added that the decision underscores the Centre’s commitment to Odisha’s development and its efforts to strengthen infrastructure in line with the vision of a “New India.”
