Centre to fully fund 92 overbridges

Centre to Fully Fund 92 Railway Overbridges in Odisha: CM Majhi
In a major infrastructure boost for Odisha, the Central government has agreed to bear the entire expenditure for constructing 92 railway overbridges (ROBs) across the state, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Thursday.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the decision marks a significant change from the earlier cost-sharing arrangement between the State Government and the Centre. Acting on the Chief Minister’s request, the Ministry of Railways decided to fund and execute the entire project independently.

Expressing his gratitude on social media platform X, CM Majhi said, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji for their continued support towards strengthening railway infrastructure in Odisha. The approval for conversion of 92 Road Over Bridge works to 100 per cent Railway funding and execution by the Railways as a single entity reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to enhancing safety and accelerating connectivity across the state.”

Officials said that the decision would significantly enhance road and rail safety, reduce congestion at railway crossings, and improve connectivity between major urban centres and rural areas. The initiative is expected to provide seamless movement of vehicles, reduce accidents, and boost economic activity by improving transport efficiency.

The Chief Minister described the Centre’s move as a “landmark decision” that would accelerate Odisha’s infrastructure growth and reflect the strong Centre-State coordination under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Railways will soon begin detailed planning for the execution of the 92 ROB projects, which are expected to be taken up in a phased manner across key railway routes in Odisha.
