Odisha CM Launches Zero Accident Initiative

Odisha CM Launches ‘Zero Accident Day’ Initiative, Highlights Economic Impact of Road Mishaps

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday launched the ‘Zero Accident Day’ initiative, emphasizing that road accidents not only devastate families but also have a significant adverse impact on the nation’s economy.

Speaking at the launch event, CM Majhi urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules and safety measures to prevent road mishaps. “A single road accident can destroy an entire family. Beyond the personal tragedies, such incidents also hurt our economy due to loss of productivity and rising healthcare costs,” he said.

The campaign, being held in collaboration with IIT-Madras, will run across Odisha till June 28. The goal is to ensure zero road accident fatalities each day during the period through heightened awareness, improved road safety practices, and data-driven interventions.

The Chief Minister stressed that road safety must become a shared responsibility among citizens, government agencies, and civil society. “Through this initiative, we aim to build a culture of responsible driving and safer roads for everyone,” he added.

Officials said the programme will include awareness drives, traffic monitoring, and the use of innovative technology to minimize accidents on major roads and highways throughout the state.
