Odisha Minister Warns Over Monsoon Waterlogging

Odisha Minister Warns Officers of Strict Action Over Waterlogging During Monsoon
Odisha’s Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra issued a stern warning to officials on Tuesday regarding waterlogging issues in urban areas during the upcoming monsoon season. He emphasized that any negligence or lapses leading to waterlogging would result in strict accountability.
Chairing a review meeting on monsoon preparedness covering all 115 civic bodies across the state, Minister Mahapatra highlighted the importance of proactive measures to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth drainage systems.
“The safety and convenience of citizens during monsoon is non-negotiable,” he said, urging officers to remain vigilant and efficient in addressing potential problems.
The minister’s warning comes amid efforts to improve urban infrastructure and mitigate the adverse effects of seasonal rains, which often disrupt daily life and cause damage in many cities and towns across Odisha.
Officials were instructed to closely monitor drainage maintenance, clear blocked waterways, and prepare emergency response plans to minimize inconvenience for residents during the monsoon period.
