Zoya Akhtar Launches Trans Stories Series

Zoya Akhtar, Ayesha Sood Bring Trans Voices to the Forefront in New Docu-Series ‘In Transit’

Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti are set to spotlight the real-life experiences of trans and non-binary individuals in their upcoming docu-series In Transit, which premieres this Friday on Prime Video.

The four-part series, directed by Ayesha Sood and produced under the Tiger Baby banner, was inspired by stories encountered during the casting process for a trans character in the second season of Made in Heaven. The acclaimed show previously broke ground by portraying LGBTQ+ narratives through characters like Arjun Mathur’s Karan and Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju’s Meher.

“In In Transit, we wanted trans people to tell their own stories,” Akhtar and Sood shared, underlining their goal to present authentic voices and lived experiences rather than filtered interpretations.

The series promises an intimate and honest portrayal of gender identity, resilience, and community, with the filmmakers emphasizing collaboration with the trans and non-binary individuals featured in the episodes.

With In Transit, Prime Video and the creators hope to drive deeper understanding, spark conversations, and promote inclusivity in Indian storytelling.
