Wild Tusker Rescued After Falling Into Abandoned Well in Kalahandi

BHAWANIPATNA, ODISHA: In a remarkable rescue operation, a wild tusker was saved on Thursday morning after it fell into an abandoned well in Jampada village, located in the Narla block of Kalahandi district.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the tusker, part of a five-member herd, accidentally plunged into the well and was unable to extricate itself despite multiple attempts. Forest officials were alerted and quickly mobilized to the scene.

Utilizing an earthmover, the forest personnel worked diligently to free the stranded pachyderm. The rescue operation proved successful, allowing the tusker to be safely extracted from the well and return to its natural habitat.

Officials emphasized the importance of ensuring that abandoned wells are secured to prevent such incidents in the future, as wildlife often traverses these areas.
