Vice President Urges Farmers’ Economic Independence

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Emphasizes Farmers’ Strength and Economic Role

Chittorgarh, Feb 9: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today asserted that farmers are the true providers of the nation and should not depend on external help. Addressing the Akhil Mewar Region Jat Mahasabha in Chittorgarh, he highlighted the economic and political strength of farmers and their pivotal role in India’s progress.

“When the economic situation of farmers improves, the country’s situation improves. Farmers should not look to anyone for support, as their strong hands hold immense political and economic power,” the Vice President remarked. He reiterated that despite challenges, the role of farmers in India’s development remains indispensable. “Today’s governance system bows to the farmers,” he added.

Reflecting on the Jat reservation movement of 1999, Dhankhar recalled the struggles for social justice that led to significant administrative representation for Jats and other communities. “We laid the foundation for this movement on this sacred land, Devnagari, Mewar’s Haridwar, and today we see its impact in governance,” he stated. He expressed pride in the peaceful nature of the movement, calling it a global example of non-violent social justice efforts.

Encouraging farmers to leverage modern agricultural advancements, the Vice President urged them to engage with Agricultural Science Centers. “There are over 730 centers dedicated to farmers. Visit them, demand services, and explore the government’s support initiatives. Farmers must also realize the potential of cooperatives,” he emphasized.

Dhankhar also called for increased farmer participation in trade and value addition, stressing the importance of expanding into dairy and food processing industries. “Flour mills, oil mills, and dairy products like buttermilk, yogurt, paneer, and ice cream should be a focus. Farmers must not limit themselves to primary production but should venture into businesses that enhance their economic standing.”

Appealing to the younger generation, he encouraged them to embrace agricultural businesses. “Agriculture is the world’s largest and most valuable trade. Our youth must take advantage of cooperative models and engage in agribusiness for long-term economic benefits,” he concluded.

The Vice President’s speech underscored the need for self-reliance, modernization, and economic expansion in the agricultural sector, resonating strongly with the farmers and community leaders present at the event.
