Odisha Govt to Seek Explanation from OCA Over Floodlight Glitch During 2nd ODI at Barabati

The Odisha government has decided to seek an explanation from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) over the floodlight failure that disrupted the second One Day International (ODI) match between India and England at Barabati Stadium for nearly 30 minutes.

Expressing concern over the embarrassing situation, state Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj stated that despite prior precautions and extensive arrangements, the incident occurred, causing an unexpected delay in the game. The minister, who was present at the stadium alongside Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other senior ministers, assured that accountability would be established for the disruption.

“An explanation will be sought from the OCA over the floodlight glitch. It happened despite taking all precautions and making elaborate prior arrangements by the OCA,” Suraj told reporters.

Meanwhile, OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera clarified that each floodlight tower was equipped with two generators to ensure uninterrupted power supply. However, despite these measures, the issue persisted, leading to a temporary halt in the match.

The floodlight failure raised concerns over infrastructure readiness at the historic Barabati Stadium, which has hosted several high-profile matches over the years. The incident also drew criticism from cricket fans and experts, who emphasized the need for a more robust system to prevent such occurrences in future international fixtures.

The Odisha government is expected to receive a detailed report from the OCA regarding the cause of the glitch and the measures being taken to avoid similar disruptions in upcoming events.
